Light Projection Mural in Nijmegen

As we were starting to wrap up an incredible year, we received an exciting last-minute request: to create a projection mapping project showcasing the renowned Dutch artists, the Lymborch brothers. This was a challenge unlike any we’d tackled before, with the event set to be presented just a few weeks later at the Town Hall in Nijmegen.

To make the most of our limited time, we decided to split our talented team, assigning each member their own chapter to work on. This approach allowed us to integrate both 3D and 2D animation into our project, using historical scans of the original paintings. We cut these scans into various layers, which we then animated to bring the art to life.

Throughout the process, we faced changing parameters that required a flexible workflow, enabling us to adapt to last-minute modifications seamlessly. It was a testament to our team's adaptability and creativity.

The opening event was a memorable experience. The Mayor of Nijmegen delivered a speech, and a sizable crowd gathered to witness the spectacle we had created. It was truly rewarding to see our hard work and collaboration pay off in such a short timeframe, and to see it projected on such a large canvas.

A special shout-out goes to everyone involved—including the team at PHUNK, project manager Anita Waltman, the mappers, hardware experts, and sound designers who made this ambitious project a reality.

If you’re in the area, don’t miss our projection mapping display! You can see the projection on Nijmegen Town Hall every evening until January 5th, from 17.00 - 21.00. Catch the projection with sound at 17.00, 17.30, 18.00 and 18.30.
