Party Arty
Instead of the silent typing and clicking of animators hard at work, the screaming sound of guitars was echoing through the halls of our studio. The team was still hard at work, but curious faces would start peeking into the studio and looking at what was going on.
Two years ago, our studio set up shop in what was once a police station. We advertised for artists to join us in this unique space in The Hague. Now, instead of stern police officers at the desks, illustrators, animators, tattoo artists, and painters are hard at work. Whether painting on a tablet, canvas, or skin, the space has become a hodgepodge of different art forms.
We improvised a small stand next to the impressive and imposing work of classic painter and pupil of Rembrandt, Rene Klarenbeek. Across the hall, illustrator Benjamin Paulus has been tirelessly organizing the event for two weeks; coffee and anticipation seem to be the only things keeping him standing.
In the hallway, the roaring sound of our render farm competes with the buzzing of tattoo guns upstairs. They are having a "flash day," where, for a small price, you can turn your body into a canvas for artists Totto, Nico, and often guest artists from around the world.
When we met our deadline, it was time to join in the fun, and the studio was getting busier and busier. A small crowd was forming at the music studio next door, aptly named the Howling Hut. Even police officers stopped by a few times to admire their historic workplace.
The night ended downstairs in the bar of the sorority Intac where we continued until early hours. Overall, the event was a great success, and we are already considering doing this on a larger scale with more time to promote it.
